  1. 1. Place honey, brown sugar, and fat in a pot.
  2. 2. Heat the mixture on the stove.
  3. 3. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  4. 4. Remove the pot from the heat and let the mixture cool down.
  5. 5. Stir the egg yolk into the cooled mixture.
  6. 6. Add the cocoa, lemon zest, and gingerbread spice.
  7. 7. Dissolve the potash (a leavening agent) in the rum.
  8. 8. Add the rum-potash solution to the dough.
  9. 9. Fold the flour into the mixture.
  10. 10. Add the slivered almonds, citron, and raisins.
  11. 11. Knead everything into a firm dough.
  12. 12. Dust the work surface with some flour.
  13. 13. Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1 cm.
  14. 14. Cut out round gingerbread cookies with a diameter of approx. 8 cm.
  15. 15. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
  16. 16. Prepare a baking sheet.
  17. 17. Place the gingerbread cookies on the baking sheet.
  18. 18. Bake the gingerbread cookies for 20 minutes.
  19. 19. Stir the powdered sugar smooth with the lemon juice.
  20. 20. Spread the cooled gingerbread cookies with the icing.
  21. 21. Decorate the gingerbread cookies with candied cherries and slivered almonds.
