Ingredients
- 150 g honey
- 75 g brown sugar
- 50 g butter
- 250 g flour
- flour (for working)
- 3 level tsp baking powder
- 1 egg
- 1 organic lemon (zested)
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp gingerbread spice
- 1 pinch salt
- 150 g ground walnuts
- 200 g powdered sugar
- food coloring (to taste)
- sugar pearls
- decorating sugar (for decorating)
Instructions
- 1. Heat honey, sugar, and butter in a pot over low heat.
- 2. Stir until the sugar has completely dissolved.
- 3. Pour the warm mixture into a bowl.
- 4. Let the mixture cool down slightly until it is lukewarm.
- 5. Preheat the oven to 175 degrees.
- 6. Mix flour and baking powder in a separate bowl.
- 7. Separate one egg into yolk and white.
- 8. Take two-thirds of the flour mixture.
- 9. Stir this flour with the egg yolk, lemon zest, spices, and salt.
- 10. Fold the flour mixture into the lukewarm honey-butter mixture.
- 11. Add the nuts to the dough.
- 12. Now mix the remaining flour mixture into the dough.
- 13. Lightly dust a work surface with flour.
- 14. Knead the dough there until smooth.
- 15. Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1 cm.
- 16. Cut out fir tree shapes in various sizes.
- 17. Place the figures on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
- 18. Bake the figures in the hot oven for approx. 12 minutes.
- 19. Let the baked figures cool down completely.
- 20. Whip the remaining egg white until stiff.
- 21. Stir powdered sugar into the egg white.
- 22. Color part of the icing with food coloring.
- 23. Brush the fir trees with the green icing.
- 24. Let the green icing dry.
- 25. Dab the tips of the fir trees with the white icing.
- 26. Decorate other figures as desired with icing, sugar pearls, and decorative sugar.
