🍽️ Lamb Meatballs in Tomato Sauce with Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients
- 2 large onions
- 2 garlic cloves
- 4 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 large can tomatoes (800 g drained weight)
- 500 g lamb mince
- 6 tbsp breadcrumbs
- 2 eggs
- 4 tbsp Parmesan (freshly grated)
- 3 tbsp mixed Italian herbs (finely chopped)
- 1 kg small potatoes
- 2 tbsp butter
- 125 ml milk
- salt
- pepper (from the mill)
- basil (for garnish)
Instructions
- 1. Preheat the oven to 100 degrees Celsius.
- 2. Peel the onions and the garlic cloves.
- 3. Dice the onions and the garlic finely.
- 4. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan.
- 5. Sauté half of the onions and garlic in the hot oil.
- 6. Remove this half from the pan and set it aside.
- 7. Add the remaining onions and garlic to the pan.
- 8. Add the tomatoes with their juice.
- 9. Mash the tomatoes roughly with a potato masher.
- 10. Let the sauce simmer uncovered for approx. 30 minutes.
- 11. Mix the lamb mince with the reserved onions and garlic.
- 12. Add the breadcrumbs, eggs, Parmesan, and herbs.
- 13. Knead the mixture well.
- 14. Season the meat mixture to taste.
- 15. Wet your hands with water.
- 16. Form small balls from the meat.
- 17. Fry the balls in the remaining hot oil on all sides.
- 18. Place the balls on a plate.
- 19. Place the balls in the preheated oven.
- 20. Bake the balls for approx. 15 minutes.
- 21. Peel the potatoes.
- 22. Boil the potatoes in plenty of salted water.
- 23. Press the cooked potatoes through a potato press.
- 24. Mix the potatoes with butter and milk.
- 25. Season the mashed potatoes with salt and pepper.
- 26. Spread the mashed potatoes on the plates.
- 27. Pour the tomato sauce over the mashed potatoes.
- 28. Slice the basil leaves into strips.
- 29. Garnish the dish with the basil strips.
- 30. Serve the dish.
