  1. 1. Peel the onion and slice it into thin strips.
  2. 2. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan and sauté the onion strips.
  3. 3. Pour the broth and wine over the onions.
  4. 4. Mix the vinegar, sugar, and spices into the liquid.
  5. 5. Place the lid on the pan and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. 6. Pluck the basil leaves from the stems and slice them into thin strips.
  7. 7. Stir half of the basil strips into the onion mixture.
  8. 8. Rinse the meat and pat it dry with a kitchen towel.
  9. 9. Heat the remaining oil in a clean pan.
  10. 10. Sear the meat for 3 minutes on each side.
  11. 11. Place the herb butter and thyme sprigs on top of the hot meat.
  12. 12. Cover the pan and cook the meat for another 2 minutes.
  13. 13. Season the meat with salt and pepper to finish.
  14. 14. Serve the lamb together with the onions and fresh baguette.
