  1. 1. Remove the stems from the cornel cherries and wash them thoroughly.
  2. 2. Drain the water from the cherries.
  3. 3. Pierce the flesh of each cherry several times with a fork.
  4. 4. Wash the elderberries and let them drain as well.
  5. 5. Slice the vanilla pod lengthwise with a knife.
  6. 6. Place the prepared cornel cherries, elderberries, sugar, and spices into a dark glass jar.
  7. 7. Pour the kirsch (cherry brandy) over the ingredients in the jar.
  8. 8. Store the mixture for at least four weeks in a warm place.
  9. 9. Filter the finished liqueur through a coffee filter or tea filter.
  10. 10. Bottle the liqueur in tightly sealable bottles.
  11. 11. Store the bottles in a dark and cool place.
  12. 12. Enjoy the liqueur best with vanilla ice cream.
