  3. 3. Let the sago soak for about 10 minutes.
  4. 4. Peel the potatoes and the yam.
  5. 5. Wash the peeled tubers.
  6. 6. Cut the potatoes and the yam into coarse chunks.
  7. 7. Place the chunks in a steamer insert.
  8. 8. Sprinkle the pieces with one teaspoon of sugar.
  9. 9. Place the steamer insert over boiling water.
  10. 10. Cover the steamer.
  11. 11. Steam the tubers for about 20 minutes until tender.
  12. 12. Pour 800 milliliters of water into a pot.
  13. 13. Add the remaining sugar to the water.
  14. 14. Bring the water to a boil.
  15. 15. Tie the pandan leaves into a knot.
  16. 16. Add the knotted pandan leaves to the boiling water.
  17. 17. Reduce the heat.
  18. 18. Add the drained sago to the soup.
  19. 19. Add the coconut milk to the soup.
  20. 20. Stir in the sago and the coconut milk.
  21. 21. Let the soup simmer gently for 15 to 20 minutes.
