  1. 1. Put the rice, turmeric powder, vanilla powder, pitted and chopped dates, and coconut milk into a pot.
  2. 2. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  3. 3. Reduce the heat to low and let the rice cook covered for about 25 minutes.
  4. 4. Remove the pot from the heat and let the rice cool down uncovered.
  5. 5. Puree the cooled rice with a blender or a fork until smooth.
  6. 6. Fold in 20 grams of rice flour into the rice mixture.
  7. 7. Shape the mixture into about 20 small balls.
  8. 8. Put 180 grams of rice flour and a pinch of salt into a bowl.
  9. 9. Add water gradually and knead the dough until it is soft and pliable.
  10. 10. Shape the dough into 20 balls as well.
  11. 11. Flatten each dough ball.
  12. 12. Wrap each rice ball with a flattened dough ball.
  13. 13. Place the wrapped balls into a steamer insert.
  14. 14. Steam the balls covered over hot water vapor for about 15 minutes.
  15. 15. Remove the balls from the steamer.
  16. 16. Roll the warm balls in coconut flakes until they are completely covered.
  17. 17. Let the balls cool down completely.
  18. 18. Serve the finished coconut rice balls.
