🍽️ Classic Swedish Meatballs with Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients
- 600 g potatoes
- salt
- 1 shallot
- 2 tbsp rapeseed oil
- 500 g beef mince
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp breadcrumbs
- 375 ml milk (1.5% fat)
- ground allspice
- 2 tbsp flour
- 4 tbsp lingonberries (jar)
Instructions
- 1. Wash the potatoes thoroughly.
- 2. Peel the potatoes.
- 3. Cut the potatoes into four equal pieces.
- 4. Bring water to a boil and add some salt.
- 5. Place the potato pieces into the boiling salted water.
- 6. Cover the pot with a lid.
- 7. Cook the potatoes for 20 minutes until tender.
- 8. Peel the shallot in the meantime.
- 9. Dice the shallot into very small cubes.
- 10. Heat 2 teaspoons of oil in a non-stick pan.
- 11. Add the diced shallots to the hot pan.
- 12. Sauté the shallots until translucent.
- 13. Remove the pan from the heat.
- 14. Let the shallots cool down briefly.
- 15. Place the minced meat into a large bowl.
- 16. Crack an egg into the bowl with the meat.
- 17. Add breadcrumbs to the bowl.
- 18. Pour 6 tablespoons of milk over the ingredients.
- 19. Add the cooled shallots to the bowl.
- 20. Season the mixture with salt.
- 21. Season the mixture with allspice.
- 22. Knead all ingredients into a uniform dough.
- 23. Moisten your hands with a little water.
- 24. Shape small balls from the meat dough.
- 25. Ensure the balls have a diameter of about 3 centimeters.
- 26. Heat the remaining oil in the pan.
- 27. Place the meatballs into the hot pan.
- 28. Fry the balls on all sides until brown over medium heat.
- 29. Remove the cooked meatballs from the pan.
- 30. Keep the meatballs warm.
- 31. Add the flour to the remaining frying fat in the pan.
- 32. Lightly stir the flour with a wooden spoon.
- 33. Pour the remaining milk into the pan.
- 34. Stir the milk thoroughly to avoid lumps.
- 35. Simmer the sauce for 8 to 10 minutes.
- 36. Stir the sauce frequently while cooking.
- 37. Drain the cooked potatoes.
- 38. Place the pot with potatoes on the turned-off stove burner.
- 39. Let the remaining liquid in the potatoes evaporate.
- 40. Return the meatballs to the sauce.
- 41. Serve the meatballs with the salted potatoes.
- 42. Garnish the dish with lingonberries.
