  1. 1. Peel the shallot and cut it into very small cubes.
  2. 2. Heat some butter in a pan and sauté the shallot cubes until they are soft and translucent.
  3. 3. Slice the bread rolls into thick slices.
  4. 4. Place the bread slices into a large bowl.
  5. 5. Pour the hot milk directly over the bread slices.
  6. 6. Add the eggs, chopped parsley, marjoram, the sautéed shallots, salt, and pepper to the bowl.
  7. 7. Mix all ingredients well together until a homogeneous mass is formed.
  8. 8. Let the dumpling mixture rest for about 20 minutes so that the bread can absorb the liquid.
  9. 9. Check the consistency of the mixture.
  10. 10. If the mixture seems too dry, add a little more milk.
  11. 11. If the mixture seems too wet, add some breadcrumbs.
  12. 12. Shape several round dumplings from the mixture using your hands.
  13. 13. Bring a pot of salted water to a gentle simmer.
  14. 14. Carefully place the dumplings into the hot water.
  15. 15. Cook the dumplings in the water for about 20 minutes.
  16. 16. Lift the finished dumplings out of the water with a slotted spoon.
  17. 17. Serve the dumplings immediately while warm.
