🍽️ Homemade Ketchup with Tomatoes and Plums

Ingredients
- 600 g ripe tomatoes
- 400 g yellow plums
- 1 onion
- 0.5 tbsp salt
- 50 g sugar
- 2 tbsp white wine vinegar
- 0.5 tsp ginger powder
- 0.5 tsp mustard seeds
- 2 pinches allspice powder
- 2 pinches cayenne pepper
Instructions
- 1. Wash the tomatoes thoroughly.
- 2. Remove the hard stem ends from the tomatoes.
- 3. Cut the tomatoes into small pieces.
- 4. Also wash the plums thoroughly.
- 5. Halve the plums.
- 6. Remove the pits from the plum halves.
- 7. Place the tomato pieces and the plums into a large pot.
- 8. Add all other ingredients for the ketchup.
- 9. Stir everything well to combine.
- 10. Bring the mixture to a boil while stirring constantly.
- 11. Reduce the heat to a low setting.
- 12. Let the ketchup simmer gently on low heat for approx. 45 minutes.
- 13. Stir occasionally during this time.
- 14. Pour the cooked mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a clean pot.
- 15. Continue to reduce the liquid that passed through the sieve until it becomes thick.
- 16. Fill the hot ketchup immediately into clean bottles.
- 17. Seal the bottles tightly.
