  1. 1. Beat the butter and sugar in a bowl until fluffy.
  2. 2. Add the sifted wheat flour and rice flour.
  3. 3. Knead everything into a smooth dough.
  4. 4. Wrap the dough in cling film.
  5. 5. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for about 2 hours.
  6. 6. Preheat the oven to 160 degrees Celsius fan-forced.
  7. 7. Lightly flour your work surface.
  8. 8. Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 5 millimeters.
  9. 9. Cut out large hearts with a diameter of 6 centimeters.
  10. 10. Cut out a smaller heart with a 3-centimeter diameter from the center of each large heart.
  11. 11. Cut small holes for hanging in the hearts.
  12. 12. Place the hearts on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
  13. 13. Bake the cookies for about 12 minutes until lightly golden yellow.
  14. 14. Carefully remove the hearts from the baking sheet.
  15. 15. Let the cookies cool down completely.
  16. 16. Divide the sugar into two small saucepans.
  17. 17. Add 2 tablespoons of water to each saucepan.
  18. 18. Melt the sugar mixture over low heat without stirring.
  19. 19. Color one portion with red food coloring.
  20. 20. Color the other portion with green food coloring.
  21. 21. Place the cooled hearts on fresh baking paper.
  22. 22. Fill the heart windows with the liquid red sugar.

  25. 25. Mix powdered sugar with lemon juice to create a liquid glaze.
  26. 26. Form a small piping bag from baking paper.
  27. 27. Apply the glaze to the edges of the hearts.
  28. 28. Decorate the cookies with sugar pearls.
  29. 29. Let the decoration harden completely.
