🍰 Heart cookies with sugar windows

Ingredients
- 250 g Butter
- 125 g Sugar
- 275 g Flour
- 100 g Rice Flour
- Flour (for working)
- 300 g Sugar
- Food coloring red and green (heat-resistant)
- 100 g Powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp Lemon juice
- Sugar pearls (for decorating)
Instructions
- 1. Beat the butter and sugar in a bowl until fluffy.
- 2. Add the sifted wheat flour and rice flour.
- 3. Knead everything into a smooth dough.
- 4. Wrap the dough in cling film.
- 5. Chill the dough in the refrigerator for about 2 hours.
- 6. Preheat the oven to 160 degrees Celsius fan-forced.
- 7. Lightly flour your work surface.
- 8. Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 5 millimeters.
- 9. Cut out large hearts with a diameter of 6 centimeters.
- 10. Cut out a smaller heart with a 3-centimeter diameter from the center of each large heart.
- 11. Cut small holes for hanging in the hearts.
- 12. Place the hearts on a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
- 13. Bake the cookies for about 12 minutes until lightly golden yellow.
- 14. Carefully remove the hearts from the baking sheet.
- 15. Let the cookies cool down completely.
- 16. Divide the sugar into two small saucepans.
- 17. Add 2 tablespoons of water to each saucepan.
- 18. Melt the sugar mixture over low heat without stirring.
- 19. Color one portion with red food coloring.
- 20. Color the other portion with green food coloring.
- 21. Place the cooled hearts on fresh baking paper.
- 22. Fill the heart windows with the liquid red sugar.
- 23. Fill the remaining windows with the green sugar.
- 24. Let the sugar harden completely.
- 25. Mix powdered sugar with lemon juice to create a liquid glaze.
- 26. Form a small piping bag from baking paper.
- 27. Apply the glaze to the edges of the hearts.
- 28. Decorate the cookies with sugar pearls.
- 29. Let the decoration harden completely.
