Ingredients
- 250 g tomatoes (4 tomatoes)
- pepper
- 500 g crusty bread (with rye content; approx. 22 cm Ø)
- 3 garlic cloves
- 100 g Serrano ham
- 125 g Manchego
- olive oil
- coarse sea salt
Instructions
- 1. Wash the tomatoes thoroughly.
- 2. Cut out the hard stem areas from the tomatoes in a wedge shape.
- 3. Slice the tomatoes into thick rounds.
- 4. Chop the tomato slices into a coarse puree.
- 5. Place the tomato puree into a bowl.
- 6. Season the puree with some pepper.
- 7. Cut the bread into 12 equal slices.
- 8. Place the bread slices on an oven rack.
- 9. Turn the oven grill to high heat.
- 10. Toast the bread slices under the hot grill until golden brown on one side.
- 11. Flip the slices and toast the other side until golden brown as well.
- 12. Ensure the toasting time per side is between 1.5 and 2.5 minutes.
- 13. Peel the garlic clove.
- 14. Rub one side of the toasted bread slices with the garlic.
- 15. Add the leftover garlic pieces unchopped to the tomatoes in the bowl.
- 16. Cut the Serrano ham into thin strips.
- 17. Shave the Manchego cheese into thin slices using a vegetable peeler.
- 18. Decoratively arrange the toasted bread slices on the buffet table.
- 19. Place the tomato puree, olive oil, sea salt, cheese, and ham nearby.
- 20. Invite guests to assemble their own toast.
- 21. Guests spread tomato puree onto a bread slice.
- 22. Guests drizzle olive oil over the puree.
- 23. Guests season everything with a little sea salt.
- 24. Guests add cheese or ham to their toast as desired.
