🍽️ Crispy Potato Gratin

Ingredients
- 1 clove garlic
- 800 g firm-boiling potatoes
- 250 ml whipping cream
- 100 g grated cheese (e.g. Gruyère, Emmentaler)
- 100 Crème fraîche
- 2 tbsp freshly chopped herbs (e.g. marjoram and thyme)
- salt
- pepper
- nutmeg (freshly grated)
Instructions
- 1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius using the top and bottom heat setting.
- 2. Peel one clove of garlic and cut it in half.
- 3. Rub the inside of a gratin dish with the cut sides of the garlic to infuse the dish with flavor.
- 4. Wash, peel, and slice the potatoes thinly, or use a mandoline slicer.
- 5. Arrange the potato slices in the dish in an overlapping, shingle-like pattern.
- 6. Mix cream, grated cheese, crème fraîche, and your chosen herbs in a bowl.
- 7. Season the mixture with salt, pepper, and ground nutmeg.
- 8. Pour the sauce over the potatoes. Ensure they are just covered; adjust the amount of cream if necessary.
- 9. Bake the gratin in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes until golden brown.
- 10. Turn on the grill for the last 10 minutes if you want a crispy, browned top layer.
