Ingredients
- 1 kg potatoes (starchy)
- 300 g whipping cream
- 100 ml whole milk
- butter (for the dish)
- salt
- pepper
- nutmeg (freshly grated)
Instructions
- 1. Grease a baking dish generously with butter.
- 2. Peel the potatoes.
- 3. Place the peeled potatoes on a kitchen towel.
- 4. Slice the potatoes thinly using a grater or mandoline.
- 5. Season the potato slices with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
- 6. Layer the seasoned potato slices into the prepared baking dish.
- 7. Whisk the milk and cream together in a separate bowl.
- 8. Pour the milk and cream mixture evenly over the potato layers.
- 9. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
- 10. Place the baking dish on the middle rack in the preheated oven.
- 11. Bake the gratin for about 40 to 45 minutes, until it is golden brown.
- 12. Remove the gratin from the oven.
- 13. Serve the dish immediately while it is still hot.
