  1. 1. Remove the hard stems from the savoy cabbage and cut the leaves into thin strips.
  2. 2. Peel the potatoes, wash them, and slice them into thin rounds.
  3. 3. Whisk the milk, broth, and eggs together in a bowl.
  4. 4. Season the liquid with salt, pepper, and freshly grated nutmeg.
  5. 5. Grease a baking dish with some butter.
  6. 6. Layer the savoy cabbage and potato slices alternately in the dish.
  7. 7. Start the layering with the cabbage and finish with a layer of potatoes.
  8. 8. Pour the egg-milk mixture evenly over the vegetables.
  9. 9. Grate the Gouda cheese over the top.
  10. 10. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius (convection 180 degrees or gas mark 3).
  11. 11. Bake the gratin for 35 to 40 minutes until golden brown.
