  1. 1. Peel the potatoes and the celery.
  2. 2. Rinse the vegetables under running water.
  3. 3. Cut the potatoes and celery into cubes of about 2 cm.
  4. 4. Mix the cream with a pinch of salt, pepper, and grated nutmeg.
  5. 5. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius with top and bottom heat.
  6. 6. Grease an oval baking dish with some butter.
  7. 7. Place the cut potatoes and celery into the dish.
  8. 8. Pour the seasoned cream over the vegetables.
  9. 9. Make sure the vegetables are almost completely covered by the cream.
  10. 10. Spread the grated cheese evenly over the surface.
  11. 11. Place the dish in the preheated oven.
  12. 12. Bake the gratin for 40 to 45 minutes.
  13. 13. Let the gratin turn golden brown and bubble.
  14. 14. Carefully remove the dish from the oven.
  15. 15. Serve the gratin immediately while it is still hot.
