  1. 1. Peel the potatoes and cut them into large chunks.
  2. 2. Steam the potato pieces until tender, which takes about 20 minutes.
  3. 3. Let the potatoes steam off for a short moment to release excess moisture.
  4. 4. Press the potatoes through a potato ricer into a large bowl.
  5. 5. Allow the mashed potato mixture to cool down completely.
  6. 6. Peel the carrots and grate them finely using a grater.
  7. 7. Add the grated carrots to the cooled potato mixture.
  8. 8. Add one raw egg, one tablespoon of sesame seeds, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, nutmeg, cardamom, and cinnamon to the bowl.
  9. 9. Knead all ingredients together by hand until you have a uniform dough.
  10. 10. Shape the dough into 20 equal-sized balls.
  11. 11. Heat plenty of oil in a frying pan or pot.
  12. 12. Fry the balls in the hot oil until they are golden yellow.
  13. 13. Cut a vanilla pod into 20 very fine, long slivers.
  14. 14. Insert one vanilla sliver into each finished ball.
  15. 15. Sprinkle the balls with sesame seeds and poppy seeds before serving.
