🍽️ Crispy Carrot and Potato Balls with Poppy Seeds and Sesame

Ingredients
- 200 g mostly waxy potatoes
- 1 carrot
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds
- 60 g breadcrumbs
- salt
- white pepper
- 1 pinch nutmeg
- 1 pinch cardamom
- 1 small pinch cinnamon
- oil (for frying)
- 1 vanilla pod
- poppy seeds (for sprinkling)
Instructions
- 1. Peel the potatoes and cut them into large chunks.
- 2. Steam the potato pieces until tender, which takes about 20 minutes.
- 3. Let the potatoes steam off for a short moment to release excess moisture.
- 4. Press the potatoes through a potato ricer into a large bowl.
- 5. Allow the mashed potato mixture to cool down completely.
- 6. Peel the carrots and grate them finely using a grater.
- 7. Add the grated carrots to the cooled potato mixture.
- 8. Add one raw egg, one tablespoon of sesame seeds, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, nutmeg, cardamom, and cinnamon to the bowl.
- 9. Knead all ingredients together by hand until you have a uniform dough.
- 10. Shape the dough into 20 equal-sized balls.
- 11. Heat plenty of oil in a frying pan or pot.
- 12. Fry the balls in the hot oil until they are golden yellow.
- 13. Cut a vanilla pod into 20 very fine, long slivers.
- 14. Insert one vanilla sliver into each finished ball.
- 15. Sprinkle the balls with sesame seeds and poppy seeds before serving.
