  1. 1. Peel the garlic cloves and halve one clove.
  2. 2. Rub the inside of the fondue pot with the half garlic clove.
  3. 3. Slice the remaining garlic cloves thinly.
  4. 4. Grate the cheese coarsely.
  5. 5. Add the grated cheese, garlic slices, and wine to the pot.
  6. 6. Melt the ingredients on the stove over low heat.
  7. 7. Mix the cornstarch smoothly with the kirsch (cherry brandy).
  8. 8. Add the starch-water mixture to the fondue.
  9. 9. Stir everything well.
  10. 10. Warm the fondue for another five minutes until it has thickened.
  11. 11. Season the fondue with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
  12. 12. Place the pot on a rechaud (small heating stand) and set the heat to low.
  13. 13. Dip cubes of white bread with fondue forks and enjoy.
