  1. 1. Wash the cherries thoroughly.
  2. 2. Pit the cherries.
  3. 3. If using canned cherries, let them drain well.
  4. 4. Separate the eggs. Keep the yolks separate from the whites.
  5. 5. Whisk the egg yolks with the milk.
  6. 6. Add the pudding powder to the mixture.
  7. 7. Add the lemon juice.
  8. 8. Add the vanilla sugar.
  9. 9. Add the sugar.
  10. 10. Add a pinch of salt.
  11. 11. Mix everything well with the quark.
  12. 12. Brush the baking pan with butter.
  13. 13. Coat the pan with breadcrumbs.
  14. 14. Whip the egg whites until stiff.
  15. 15. Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the quark mixture.
  16. 16. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  17. 17. Smooth the surface.
  18. 18. Distribute the cherries evenly on top.
  19. 19. Press the cherries slightly into the batter.
  20. 20. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
  21. 21. Place the pan in the center of the oven.
  22. 22. Bake the cake for approx. 1 1/4 hours.
