🍰 Crispy Japanese Rice Balls with Lotus Paste

Ingredients
- 250 g glutinous rice flour
- 250 g sweet lotus paste
- 50 g white sesame seeds
- 1 l vegetable oil (for frying)
Instructions
- 1. Mix the glutinous rice flour with 100 milliliters of hot water until a pliable dough forms.
- 2. Let the dough cool down for 10 minutes.
- 3. Knead the dough until it becomes elastic.
- 4. Shape the dough into a roll with a diameter of 4 centimeters.
- 5. Cut the roll into 10 equal pieces.
- 6. Cover the dough pieces with a damp cloth to prevent them from drying out.
- 7. Take one piece of dough and shape it into a flat disc with a diameter of 8 centimeters.
- 8. Make sure the edge of the disc is slightly thinner than the center.
- 9. Place 1 teaspoon of lotus paste in the center of the dough disc.
- 10. Pull the dough edge over the filling and carefully seal the ball.
- 11. Shape the ball into a smooth sphere.
- 12. Spread sesame seeds onto a plate.
- 13. Heat oil in a wok.
- 14. Moisten the rice balls briefly with water.
- 15. Roll the balls in the sesame seeds until they are completely covered.
- 16. Carefully place the balls into the hot oil.
- 17. Fry the balls for about 3 minutes until they are golden yellow.
- 18. Remove the finished balls from the oil using a slotted spoon.
- 19. Let the excess oil drip off.
