  1. 1. Cut the bread into large cubes or tear it into rough pieces.
  2. 2. Heat 2 to 3 tablespoons of olive oil in a pan.
  3. 3. Fry the bread pieces in the hot oil until golden brown.
  4. 4. Place the toasted bread pieces on kitchen paper to absorb excess fat.
  5. 5. Wash the tomatoes and pat them dry thoroughly with a cloth.
  6. 6. Cut the dry tomatoes into wedges.
  7. 7. Peel the onion and slice it into thin rings.
  8. 8. Peel the cucumber and cut it into cubes.
  9. 9. Wash the celery and remove the fibrous strings.
  10. 10. Cut the celery into approximately 2-centimeter thick slices.
  11. 11. Drain the olives and capers in a sieve.
  12. 12. Halve the garlic clove.
  13. 13. Rub the inside of the salad bowl with the garlic half to release the flavor.
  14. 14. Add all prepared ingredients to the large bowl.
  15. 15. Toss everything well with the vinegar, remaining oil, salt, and pepper.
  16. 16. Divide the salad mixture into 4 small bowls.
  17. 17. Wash the basil leaves and pat them dry.
  18. 18. Serve the salad garnished with the crunchy bread cubes and the basil leaves.
