  1. 1. Heat the oil, honey, and sugar in a pot. Stir until the mixture comes to a boil. Remove the pot from the heat and let the mixture cool down completely.
  2. 2. Mix the flour, baking powder, ground almonds, spices, eggs, candied lemon peel, and candied orange peel in a large bowl.
  3. 3. Add the cooled honey-oil mixture to the flour mixture. Stir everything well. If the dough seems too runny, add a little more flour until the consistency is correct.
  4. 4. Cover the bowl and let the dough rest in the refrigerator for about 1 hour.
  5. 5. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius with fan (convection).
  6. 6. Grease a baking sheet with some fat. Spread the dough onto it and smooth the surface.
  7. 7. Spread a layer of cream evenly over the dough.
  8. 8. Cut a grid into the dough to create squares with a side length of 6 centimeters.
  9. 9. Decorate each individual square with almond slivers, glazed cherries, and small pieces of candied lemon peel.
  10. 10. Place the tray on the middle rack in the preheated oven. Bake the cake for about 40 minutes until it is light brown.
  11. 11. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool down for a short while.
  12. 12. Carefully release the cake from the baking sheet. Cut it along the previously made lines into the individual squares.
