🍽️ Homemade Elderberry Syrup

Ingredients
- 400 g elderberries
- clear apple juice (as needed)
- 500 g sugar
Instructions
- 1. Remove the elderberries from the stems.
- 2. Discard any unripe or damaged berries.
- 3. Rinse the berries under running water.
- 4. Place the berries in a pot and cover them with 1.5 liters of water.
- 5. Bring the mixture to a boil.
- 6. Simmer the berries for about 15 minutes on low heat.
- 7. Line a sieve with a clean cloth.
- 8. Pour the cooked mixture through the cloth into a bowl.
- 9. Let the juice drip overnight.
- 10. Only squeeze the berry residue if you want a very dark syrup.
- 11. Top up the juice with apple juice until you have exactly 1 liter of liquid.
- 12. Stir the sugar into the liquid.
- 13. Bring the mixture back to a boil.
- 14. Let the syrup boil vigorously for about 5 minutes.
- 15. Fill the hot syrup into clean, prepared jars.
- 16. Seal the jars tightly.
- 17. Let the jars cool down completely.
