🍽️ Crispy Yeast Onion Sticks

Ingredients
- 0.5 cube fresh yeast (21 g)
- 1 pinch sugar
- 500 g wheat flour
- 2 tsp salt
- 5 tbsp sunflower oil
- 2 small onions
- flour (for working)
Instructions
- 1. Dissolve the yeast in 2 tablespoons of lukewarm water and the sugar.
- 2. Mix the flour with the salt in a large bowl.
- 3. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture.
- 4. Pour the yeast-water mixture into the well.
- 5. Cover the bowl.
- 6. Let the dough rise in a warm place for approx. 15 minutes.
- 7. Add 2 tablespoons of oil to the dough.
- 8. Knead in approx. 220 milliliters of lukewarm water slowly.
- 9. Ensure the dough is soft, pliable, and releases from the sides of the bowl.
- 10. Let the dough rise again for approx. 1 hour.
- 11. Peel the onions in the meantime.
- 12. Quarter the onions.
- 13. Cut the onions into thin strips.
- 14. Heat the remaining oil in a pan.
- 15. Fry the onions in brown for approx. 5 minutes at medium heat.
- 16. Stir the onions occasionally.
- 17. Remove the onions from the heat.
- 18. Let the onions cool down.
- 19. Add the cooled onions to the dough.
- 20. Knead the onions firmly into the dough.
- 21. Divide the dough into 6 pieces.
- 22. Sprinkle some flour on a work surface.
- 23. Roll the dough pieces into sticks approx. 2 cm thick.
- 24. Take 2 sticks each.
- 25. Twist the sticks together.
- 26. Press the ends of the sticks firmly.
- 27. Dust the sticks with flour.
- 28. Place the sticks on a tray with baking paper.
- 29. Cover the sticks with a cloth.
- 30. Let the sticks rest for approx. 30 minutes.
- 31. Preheat the oven to 200°C fan.
- 32. Bake the onion sticks for approx. 45 minutes.
- 33. Remove the sticks from the oven.
- 34. Place the sticks on a rack.
- 35. Let the sticks cool down.
