  1. 1. Peel the onion and cut it into fine cubes.
  2. 2. Heat one tablespoon of oil in a pan.
  3. 3. Sauté the onion cubes in it until they are soft and translucent.
  4. 4. Let the onion mixture cool down briefly.
  5. 5. Mix the cooled onions with an egg, thyme, and the minced meat.
  6. 6. Add breadcrumbs until the mixture is easy to shape.
  7. 7. Season the mixture with salt and pepper.
  8. 8. Form four round meatballs from the mixture.
  9. 9. Fry the meatballs in the remaining oil in a hot pan.
  10. 10. Turn the balls occasionally until they are golden brown on both sides.
  11. 11. Frying takes about six to eight minutes.
  12. 12. Wash the lettuce and remove the tough stems.
  13. 13. Shake the lettuce dry and tear the leaves into small pieces.
  14. 14. Peel the onion and slice it into rings.
  15. 15. Wash the tomato and remove the hard stem base.
  16. 16. Slice the tomato into thin rounds.
  17. 17. Stir the mayonnaise smoothly with the mustard.
  18. 18. Cut the buns horizontally in the middle.
  19. 19. Toast the cut sides of the buns until golden brown.
  20. 20. Spread the mayonnaise mixture on the bottom half of the buns.
  21. 21. Place the lettuce on the buttered bun bottom.
  22. 22. Place the meatballs, tomato slices, and onion rings on top.
  23. 23. Cover the burgers with the top bun.
  24. 24. Serve the burgers immediately.
