  1. 1. Peel the onion and chop it into very fine cubes.
  2. 2. Heat one tablespoon of oil in a pan and sauté the onion cubes until they are soft and translucent.
  3. 3. Let the onion mixture cool down briefly.
  4. 4. Add the cooled onion mixture, one egg, fresh thyme leaves, and the minced meat to a bowl.
  5. 5. Add breadcrumbs gradually until the mixture is easy to shape.
  6. 6. Season the meat mixture with salt and pepper.
  7. 7. Form four round meat patties from the mixture.
  8. 8. Fry the meat patties in the remaining oil in a hot pan.
  9. 9. Turn the patties occasionally until they are golden brown and cooked through on both sides.
  10. 10. Frying takes about six to eight minutes.
  11. 11. Wash the lettuce and remove the tough stems.
  12. 12. Shake the lettuce dry and tear the leaves into bite-sized pieces.
  13. 13. Peel the onion and slice it into thin rings.
  14. 14. Wash the tomato and remove the hard stem area.
  15. 15. Slice the tomato into thin rounds.
  16. 16. Stir the mayonnaise smoothly with the mustard.
  17. 17. Cut the buns horizontally in half.
  18. 18. Toast the cut sides of the buns in a pan until golden brown.
  19. 19. Spread the mayonnaise-mustard mixture on the bottom halves of the buns.
  20. 20. Top the buns with the lettuce.
  21. 21. Place the meat patties on the lettuce.
  22. 22. Add the tomato slices and the onion rings.
  23. 23. Place the top bun on.
  24. 24. Serve the burger immediately.
