🍽️ Meatballs in Tomato Sauce

Ingredients
- 140 g onions (2 onions each)
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 bunch basil
- 400 g ground beef
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp oats
- salt
- pepper
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 40 g tomato paste (2 tbsp each)
- 840 g peeled tomatoes (can; net weight)
- 2 sprigs rosemary
- 2 bay leaves
- 300 g whole grain pasta
Instructions
- 1. Peel the onions and the garlic cloves.
- 2. Finely dice the onions and the garlic.
- 3. Put half of the onions and garlic into a bowl.
- 4. Wash the basil.
- 5. Shake the basil dry.
- 6. Pluck the basil leaves from the stems.
- 7. Finely chop the basil leaves.
- 8. Add the chopped basil to the bowl.
- 9. Add the minced meat to the bowl.
- 10. Add the egg to the bowl.
- 11. Add the oat flakes to the bowl.
- 12. Season the mixture with salt.
- 13. Season the mixture with pepper.
- 14. Knead everything into a dough using the beaters of a hand mixer.
- 15. Heat oil in a wide pot.
- 16. Add the remaining onions and garlic to the pot.
- 17. Sauté the vegetables until translucent over medium heat.
- 18. Stir in the tomato paste.
- 19. Sauté the tomato paste briefly.
- 20. Roughly crush the tomatoes directly in the can with a knife.
- 21. Add the tomatoes including the juice to the pot.
- 22. Pour in 250 milliliters of water.
- 23. Wash the rosemary.
- 24. Shake the rosemary dry.
- 25. Pluck the rosemary needles.
- 26. Finely chop the rosemary needles.
- 27. Add the chopped rosemary to the tomato sauce.
- 28. Add the bay leaves to the tomato sauce.
- 29. Season the sauce with salt.
- 30. Season the sauce with pepper.
- 31. Simmer the sauce in the open pot over low heat for 40 minutes.
- 32. Line a baking sheet with baking paper.
- 33. Moisten your hands.
- 34. Form small meatballs from the dough.
- 35. Distribute the meatballs on the baking sheet.
- 36. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
- 37. Set the oven to convection 180 degrees Celsius.
- 38. Set the oven to gas level 3.
- 39. Slide the tray onto the middle rack.
- 40. Bake the meatballs for 12 to 15 minutes in the oven.
- 41. Cook the pasta in plenty of boiling salted water until al dente.
- 42. Follow the package instructions for the cooking time of the pasta.
- 43. Add the cooked meatballs to the tomato sauce.
- 44. Drain the pasta.
- 45. Let the pasta drain.
- 46. Serve the meatballs in tomato sauce together with the pasta.
