🍽️ Baked Meatballs in Tomato Sauce with Mozzarella

Ingredients
- 1 bread roll (from the day before)
- 125 ml milk (1.5% fat; lukewarm)
- 2 red onions
- 4 garlic cloves
- 2 sprigs oregano
- 600 g beef tartare
- 1 egg
- salt
- pepper
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 150 ml dry red wine (or meat broth)
- 600 g chunky tomatoes (can)
- 125 g mozzarella (9% fat; 1 ball)

Instructions
- 1. Soak the bread rolls in the milk.
- 2. Peel the onions and the garlic.
- 3. Finely dice the onions and the garlic.
- 4. Wash the oregano and shake it dry.
- 5. Pluck the oregano leaves from the stems.
- 6. Finely chop the oregano leaves.
- 7. Squeeze the soaked bread rolls well.
- 8. Mix the minced beef with half of the garlic.
- 9. Add the squeezed bread rolls to the meat.
- 10. Add an egg to the meat mixture.
- 11. Season the meat mixture with salt and pepper.
- 12. Form small meatballs from the mixture.
- 13. Ensure each ball weighs about 30 grams.
- 14. Heat oil in an ovenproof pan.
- 15. Fry the meatballs golden brown on all sides.
- 16. Fry them over medium heat.
- 17. Add the diced onions to the pan.
- 18. Add the remaining garlic to the pan.
- 19. Sauté the vegetables briefly.
- 20. Deglaze the mixture with red wine.
- 21. Let the liquid reduce almost completely.
- 22. Add the tomatoes to the sauce.
- 23. Season the sauce with the chopped oregano.
- 24. Season the sauce additionally with salt and pepper.
- 25. Let the sauce simmer over medium heat for about 10 minutes.
- 26. Let the mozzarella drain in a colander.
- 27. Slice the mozzarella.
- 28. Distribute the mozzarella slices over the meatballs.
- 29. Preheat the oven with the grill function.
- 30. Place the pan under the grill for about 5 minutes.
- 31. Bake the meatballs with the sauce and cheese.
- 32. Wash the basil and shake it dry.
- 33. Pluck the basil leaves from the stems.
- 34. Plate the meatballs with the sauce.
- 35. Sprinkle the finished balls with the basil leaves.
