  1. 1. Thoroughly wash the green asparagus under running water.
  2. 2. Trim off the woody lower ends of the asparagus stalks.
  3. 3. Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a boil.
  4. 4. Add a generous pinch of salt to the boiling water.
  5. 5. Add the asparagus to the salted water and cook for 10 minutes until tender-crisp.
  6. 6. Remove the asparagus from the water using a slotted spoon.
  7. 7. Let the asparagus drain well in a colander.
  8. 8. Take four small glasses or bowls for the portions.
  9. 9. Pour two to three tablespoons of olive oil into each glass.
  10. 10. Stand the drained asparagus stalks upright in the glasses with the oil.
  11. 11. Serve a mixed pepper blend and coarse sea salt on the side.
