  2. 2. Trim the hard ends from both sides of the beans.
  3. 3. Remove any fibrous side strings if present.
  4. 4. Fill a large pot with water and add some salt.
  5. 5. Bring the water to a boil.
  6. 6. Add the savory herb to the boiling water.
  7. 7. Place the prepared beans into the water.
  8. 8. Cook the beans for about 8 minutes.
  9. 9. Drain the beans.
  10. 10. Rinse the beans immediately with cold water to stop the cooking process (this is called blanching).
  11. 11. Wash the star fruit under running water.
  12. 12. Slice the star fruit into thin rounds.
  13. 13. Peel the onions.
  14. 14. Halve the onions.
  15. 15. Slice the onion halves into thin slices.
  16. 16. Heat the oil in a pan.
  17. 17. Add the onion slices to the hot pan.
  18. 18. Sauté the onions briefly.
  19. 19. Add the mustard seeds to the pan.
  20. 20. Add the blanched beans to the pan.
  21. 21. Toss the ingredients gently so they warm through.
  22. 22. Season the mixture with pepper.
  23. 23. Add vinegar.
  24. 24. Finally, adjust the seasoning with salt and other spices to taste.
  25. 25. Transfer the green beans with onions into a serving bowl.
