🍰 Grandma's August Apple Cake

Ingredients
- 1 kg small apples (August apples)
- 1 lemon
- 100 g dried apricots
- 500 g sour cream
- 3 eggs
- 50 g sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 100 g marzipan paste
- 150 g butter
- 120 g sugar
- 100 g marzipan paste
- 1 unpeeled lemon
- 2 packets bourbon vanilla sugar
- 2 eggs
- 75 ml milk
- 300 g flour
- 3 tsp baking powder
- 50 g sliced almonds
- 3 tsp powdered sugar
Instructions
- 1. Peel the apples and cut them in half.
- 2. Remove the core from the apple halves.
- 3. Slice the apple halves fan-style, but do not cut all the way through.
- 4. Drizzle the apples with lemon juice.
- 5. Dice the apricots finely.
- 6. Mix sour cream, eggs, sugar, cinnamon, and grated marzipan in a bowl.
- 7. Put butter, sugar, grated marzipan, lemon zest, and vanilla sugar in a separate bowl.
- 8. Mix the ingredients for the dough well.
- 9. Stir in the eggs and milk one after the other into the dough.
- 10. Mix flour and baking powder.
- 11. Stir the flour mixture into the dough briefly.
- 12. Grease a deep baking sheet and dust it with flour.
- 13. Spread the dough on the baking sheet.
- 14. Press the apple halves into the dough.
- 15. Pour the sour cream mixture over the apples.
- 16. Sprinkle almond slices over the top.
- 17. Preheat the oven to 175 degrees Celsius or gas mark 3.
- 18. Bake the cake for approx. 50 minutes.
- 19. Let the cake cool on a wire rack.
- 20. Dust the cake with powdered sugar.
- 21. Serve the cake with semi-whipped cream.
