  1. 1. Wash the tomatoes thoroughly and pat them dry with a kitchen towel.
  2. 2. Cut the tomatoes in half through the middle.
  3. 3. Peel the garlic clove and cut it in half as well.
  4. 4. Preheat the grill pan or switch on the grill function of your oven.
  5. 5. Place the bread slices in the hot pan or under the grill without adding any extra fat.
  6. 6. Toast the bread on both sides until golden brown and crispy.
  7. 7. Remove the toasted slices from the pan or the oven.
  8. 8. Place them on a work surface and let them cool down for a short moment.
  9. 9. Rub the warm cut sides of the bread vigorously with the garlic halves.
  10. 10. Optional: Slice the remaining garlic clove into paper-thin slices for decoration.
  11. 11. Place the tomato halves on the bread with the cut side facing down.
  12. 12. Press the tomatoes firmly with your hand so that the juice and pulp are absorbed by the bread.
  13. 13. If the tomatoes are very firm, scoop out the pulp with a teaspoon instead and spread it on the bread.
  14. 14. Finally, season the breads with salt and black pepper to taste.
  15. 15. Drizzle some olive oil over the breads.
  16. 16. Garnish the breads with the thin garlic slices as desired and serve immediately.
