🍽️ Creamy Potato and Bean Gratin with Fried Meatballs

Ingredients
- 500 g firm-cooking potatoes
- 200 g green beans
- salt
- soft butter (for the dish)
- 1 slice toast bread
- 1 shallot
- 1 clove garlic
- 400 g minced meat
- breadcrumbs (for working and rolling)
- pepper
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 0.5 tsp dried thyme
- 300 ml whipping cream
- 150 g grated cheese (e.g. Emmental)
- nutmeg
- 2 tbsp parmesan
- 100 g vine tomatoes
Instructions
- 1. Wash the potatoes thoroughly.
- 2. Boil the potatoes in salted water for 15 to 20 minutes.
- 3. Make sure the potatoes remain slightly firm in the center.
- 4. Peel the cooked potatoes.
- 5. Cut the potatoes into thick slices.
- 6. Trim the beans.
- 7. Boil the beans in boiling salted water for about 5 minutes.
- 8. Keep the beans crisp-tender.
- 9. Drain the beans.
- 10. Rinse the beans with cold water.
- 11. Let the beans drain well.
- 12. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius with top and bottom heat.
- 13. Grease a baking dish with some butter.
- 14. Soak the toast slices in some water.
- 15. Peel the shallot.
- 16. Peel the garlic.
- 17. Chop the shallot and garlic finely.
- 18. Add the chopped ingredients to the minced meat.
- 19. Squeeze the soaked toast.
- 20. Mix the squeezed toast with the minced meat.
- 21. Season the mixture with salt.
- 22. Season the mixture with pepper.
- 23. Season the mixture with oregano.
- 24. Season the mixture with thyme.
- 25. Add breadcrumbs if needed.
- 26. Ensure the dough is well-formable.
- 27. Moisten your hands.
- 28. Form small balls from the meat mixture.
- 29. Roll the meatballs in breadcrumbs.
- 30. Place the potato slices in the baking dish.
- 31. Place the beans in the baking dish.
- 32. Stir the cream with 50 grams of cheese.
- 33. Season the cream mixture with salt.
- 34. Season the cream mixture with pepper.
- 35. Season the cream mixture with nutmeg.
- 36. Pour the cream mixture over the vegetables.
- 37. Place the meatballs on top of the vegetables.
- 38. Put the dish in the oven.
- 39. Bake the gratin for 30 to 40 minutes.
- 40. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top in the last 10 minutes.
- 41. Sprinkle the Parmesan on top.
- 42. Place the washed tomatoes on top.
- 43. Finish baking the gratin.
- 44. Serve the gratin warm.
