🍽️ Crispy Mozzarella Toasts

Ingredients
- 1 ball Mozzarella (125 g)
- 8 slices Toast bread
- Salt
- Pepper (from the mill)
- 2 tsp freshly chopped Oregano
- 3 Eggs
- 5 tbsp Milk
- Nutmeg (freshly grated)
- Flour (for dusting)
- 3 tbsp Olive oil
- fresh Oregano (for garnishing)
Instructions
- 1. Drain the mozzarella in a colander.
- 2. Slice the mozzarella into thin rounds.
- 3. Trim the crusts off the bread slices.
- 4. Place half of the bread slices on a cutting board.
- 5. Distribute the mozzarella slices evenly over the bread.
- 6. Season the cheese slices with a pinch of salt.
- 7. Add freshly ground pepper.
- 8. Sprinkle chopped fresh oregano over the top.
- 9. Place the second bread slice on top.
- 10. Press the sandwiches down gently.
- 11. Whisk the eggs in a shallow bowl.
- 12. Stir the milk into the eggs.
- 13. Season the egg mixture with salt.
- 14. Add pepper to the egg mixture.
- 15. Grate a little nutmeg into the mixture.
- 16. Lightly dust the sandwiches with flour.
- 17. Dip the sandwiches briefly into the egg milk.
- 18. Let the sandwiches sit in the liquid for about 1 to 2 minutes.
- 19. Heat oil in a large frying pan.
- 20. Fry the sandwiches in the hot pan.
- 21. Fry them until golden brown on both sides.
- 22. Place the finished sandwiches on kitchen paper.
- 23. Let the excess oil drain off.
- 24. Cut the sandwiches diagonally in half.
- 25. Arrange the toasts on plates.
- 26. Garnish them with fresh oregano leaves.
- 27. Serve the sandwiches immediately while hot.
