  2. 2. Grease the baking dishes or four portion molds with butter.
  3. 3. Cut the rolls into small cubes.
  4. 4. Peel the shallots and cut them into wedges.
  5. 5. Halve the chestnuts.
  6. 6. Peel the garlic clove and chop it finely.
  7. 7. Heat the butter in a pan.
  8. 8. Sauté the shallots, chestnuts, and garlic in the hot butter until translucent.
  9. 9. Remove the pan from the heat.
  10. 10. Stir the herbs into the vegetable mixture.
  11. 11. Mix the bread cubes with the herb mixture.
  12. 12. Transfer the mixture into the prepared dish.
  13. 13. Whisk the eggs with the cream and milk.
  14. 14. Season the liquid generously with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
  15. 15. Pour the liquid over the bread cubes.
  16. 16. Bake the stuffing in the oven for about 45 minutes until nicely browned.
