  1. 1. Dissolve the yeast, lard, and salt in 250 milliliters of lukewarm water.
  2. 2. Knead the flour into the liquid until the dough easily pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
  3. 3. If necessary, add a little more water or flour to achieve the right consistency.
  4. 4. Let the dough rise in a warm place for at least 45 minutes.
  5. 5. Peel the onions and slice them into thin strips.
  6. 6. Peel the garlic and chop it finely.
  7. 7. Strip the thyme leaves from the stems.
  8. 8. Preheat the oven to 220 degrees Celsius fan-assisted.
  9. 9. Sauté the onion strips in hot olive oil until translucent.
  10. 10. Add the bay leaf and thyme to the onion mixture.
  11. 11. Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste.
  12. 12. Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a round shape.
