🍽️ Crispy Fish Balls with Classic Tartar Sauce

Ingredients
- 1 spring onion
- 600 g white fish fillet (skinless; e.g. cod)
- 2 slices toast bread
- 50 ml whipping cream
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp freshly chopped dill
- 0.5 tsp curry powder
- salt
- pepper (from the mill)
- breadcrumbs (as needed)
- oil (for frying)
- 2 eggs
- 1 shallot
- 4 tbsp mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp sour cream
- 1 tbsp capers
- 2 small gherkins
- 1 tsp hot mustard
- salt
- pepper (from the mill)
Instructions
- 1. Thoroughly wash the spring onions and remove the dry ends.
- 2. Slice the spring onions into fine rings.
- 3. Rinse the fish fillet and pat it dry with a kitchen towel.
- 4. Cut the fish into small cubes.
- 5. Soak the toast bread in the cream until it is soft.
- 6. Add the fish, the egg, the dill, the curry powder, salt, and pepper to the blender.
- 7. Add the soaked toast bread.
- 8. Blend the mixture in the blender until it is fine and homogeneous.
- 9. Gently fold the chopped spring onions into the fish mixture.
- 10. Season the mixture with salt and pepper to taste.
- 11. If the mixture is too soft, stir in white bread crumbs to bind it.
- 12. Form small balls from the fish mixture.
- 13. Roll the fish balls in breadcrumbs until they are completely covered.
- 14. Heat oil in a frying pan.
- 15. Fry the fish balls slowly in the pan.
- 16. Fry them for about 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden brown.
- 17. Boil the eggs hard by cooking them in water.
- 18. Peel the shallot and remove the outer layers.
- 19. Chop the shallot very finely.
- 20. Mix the mayonnaise and the sour cream in a bowl.
- 21. Chop the capers finely.
- 22. Add the chopped capers to the mayonnaise-cream mixture.
- 23. Dice the gherkins very finely.
- 24. Peel the hard-boiled eggs.
- 25. Dice the peeled eggs finely.
- 26. Add the diced eggs to the sauce mixture.
- 27. Add the finely chopped shallot to the sauce.
- 28. Add the finely diced gherkins to the sauce.
- 29. Mix all ingredients for the sauce well together.
- 30. Season the sauce with mustard, salt, and pepper to taste.
- 31. Serve the fish balls together with the tartar sauce.
