  1. 1. Peel the shallot and slice it into thin rings.
  2. 2. Wash the fennel thoroughly.
  3. 3. Remove the hard bottom stalk, but leave a small piece so the leaves stay together.
  4. 4. Cut the fennel into slices or wedges about 5 millimeters thick.
  5. 5. Season the fennel with salt.
  6. 6. Heat oil in a large pan.
  7. 7. Fry the shallot rings and fennel for 2 to 3 minutes over high heat.
  8. 8. Squeeze out the lemon juice.
  9. 9. Add the lemon juice and broth to the pan.
  10. 10. Let the liquid bubble until it has reduced by half, for 1 to 2 minutes.
  11. 11. Reduce the heat to low.
  12. 12. Cover the pan.
  13. 13. Simmer the fennel until tender for about 5 minutes.
  14. 14. Plate the vegetable dish.
  15. 15. Sprinkle some paprika powder over it.
  16. 16. Garnish with lime slices, thyme sprigs, and fresh parsley.
  17. 17. Serve the dish immediately.
