🍽️ Spelt Wholemeal Yeast Plait

Ingredients
- 0.5 cube yeast
- 300 ml milk (1.5% fat) (lukewarm)
- 3 tbsp honey
- 1 egg
- 1 pinch salt
- 550 g spelt whole wheat flour
- 50 g room-temperature butter
Instructions
- 1. Dissolve the yeast in the lukewarm milk. Stir in the honey, the egg, and a pinch of salt.
- 2. Add the flour and mix well. Work the butter into the dough. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour; if it is too dry, add a little more milk.
- 3. Knead the dough vigorously for 10 minutes and place it back in the bowl. Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm place without drafts for about 45 minutes, until it has doubled in size.
- 4. Knead the dough briefly again. Divide it into three equal parts and roll each part into a roll about 50 centimeters long. Braid these into a plait and press the ends together firmly.
- 5. Place the braided plait on a baking tray lined with baking paper. Cover it and let it rise in a warm place without drafts for another 20 minutes.
- 6. Place a heatproof dish with boiling water on the bottom of the preheated oven. Bake the plait at 180 degrees Celsius top and bottom heat for about 40 minutes. Cover the plait with a piece of baking paper after 20 minutes so that it does not become too dark.
