🍽️ Crispy Potato Gratin with Ham

Ingredients
- 2 tbsp ghee
- 8 slices Black Forest ham
- 1 kg floury potatoes
- 2 onions
- 4 mettwurst sausages
- 100 g Appenzeller (or Emmental)
- 250 ml milk (1.5% fat)
- 125 g whipping cream
- salt
- pepper
- nutmeg
Instructions
- 1. Lightly grease a baking dish with ghee.
- 2. Line the bottom of the dish with the ham slices.
- 3. Peel the potatoes and wash them thoroughly.
- 4. Grate the potatoes finely.
- 5. Squeeze the grated potatoes dry with a kitchen towel.
- 6. Peel the onions.
- 7. Dice the onions into small cubes.
- 8. Slice the sausages.
- 9. Grate the cheese finely.
- 10. Mix the dry potatoes with the onion cubes.
- 11. Add the sausage slices and grated cheese to the potato-onion mixture.
- 12. Spread the entire mixture evenly over the ham slices in the dish.
- 13. Mix the milk with the whipping cream in a separate bowl.
- 14. Season the milk-cream mixture generously with salt.
- 15. Add fresh pepper and ground nutmeg.
- 16. Heat the seasoning mixture briefly on the stove.
- 17. Pour the hot liquid evenly over the potato gratin.
- 18. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius conventional heat.
- 19. Bake the gratin for about 60 to 70 minutes until golden brown.
- 20. Cover the dish if the surface becomes too dark.
