  3. 3. Peel the potatoes and wash them thoroughly.
  4. 4. Grate the potatoes finely.
  5. 5. Squeeze the grated potatoes dry with a kitchen towel.
  6. 6. Peel the onions.
  7. 7. Dice the onions into small cubes.
  8. 8. Slice the sausages.
  9. 9. Grate the cheese finely.
  10. 10. Mix the dry potatoes with the onion cubes.
  11. 11. Add the sausage slices and grated cheese to the potato-onion mixture.
  12. 12. Spread the entire mixture evenly over the ham slices in the dish.
  13. 13. Mix the milk with the whipping cream in a separate bowl.
  14. 14. Season the milk-cream mixture generously with salt.
  15. 15. Add fresh pepper and ground nutmeg.
  16. 16. Heat the seasoning mixture briefly on the stove.
  17. 17. Pour the hot liquid evenly over the potato gratin.
  18. 18. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius conventional heat.
