🍽️ Sweet and tangy red onions in a jar

Ingredients
- 1 kg red onions
- 50 g Butter
- 2 tbsp Honey
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 50 ml Balsamic vinegar
- 100 ml dry red wine
- 1 Star anise
- 1 tsp peppercorns
- Salt
Instructions
- 1. Peel the red onions.
- 2. Cut the onions in half.
- 3. Slice the onion halves into thin strips.
- 4. Place the onion strips and the butter in a pan.
- 5. Heat the pan to medium heat.
- 6. Cook the onions for about 15 to 20 minutes.
- 7. Stir the onions regularly.
- 8. Stop when the onions are soft.
- 9. Stir in the honey and the sugar.
- 10. Let the mixture reduce briefly.
- 11. Wait until the mixture is slightly caramelized.
- 12. Deglaze the pan with the balsamic vinegar.
- 13. Add a splash of red wine.
- 14. Add the star anise to the pan.
- 15. Add the crushed peppercorns.
- 16. Simmer the mixture for about 20 minutes.
- 17. Stir the mixture occasionally.
- 18. Pour in a little more red wine if necessary.
- 19. Stop when the mixture is thick.
- 20. Remove the star anise from the pan.
- 21. Season the onions with salt.
- 22. Fill the hot mixture into clean jars.
- 23. Let the jars cool.
- 24. Store the jars in a cool place.
- 25. Store the jars in a dark place.
