🍽️ Sweet and Sour Chutney with Red Onions and Plum

Ingredients
- 100 g plums (or red plums)
- 500 g red onions
- 2 tbsp sunflower oil
- 1 tbsp honey
- 250 ml dry red wine
- 75 ml white balsamic vinegar
- 1 tsp peppercorns
- 1 pinch clove powder
- 1 pinch allspice
- 1 tsp chopped oregano
- 2 bay leaves
- salt
- pepper (from the mill)
Instructions
- 1. Thoroughly wash the plums under running water.
- 2. Cut the plums in half and remove the stones.
- 3. Cut the plum halves into small wedges.
- 4. Peel the red onions.
- 5. Cut the onions into very fine strips.
- 6. Heat oil in a pan.
- 7. Add the onion strips to the hot pan.
- 8. Sauté the onions for 1 to 2 minutes until they become soft.
- 9. Add the plums to the pan.
- 10. Add the honey to the pan.
- 11. Add the red wine to the pan.
- 12. Add the vinegar to the pan.
- 13. Add the peppercorns to the pan.
- 14. Add the cloves to the pan.
- 15. Add the allspice to the pan.
- 16. Add the oregano to the pan.
- 17. Add the bay leaf to the pan.
- 18. Set the heat to low.
- 19. Let the mixture simmer without a lid.
- 20. Simmer the mixture for about 45 minutes.
- 21. Stir the mixture occasionally to prevent burning.
- 22. Add a little water if necessary.
- 23. Continue simmering until the mixture reduces to a thick chutney.
- 24. Season the chutney with salt.
- 25. Season the chutney with pepper.
- 26. Season the chutney with a little vinegar to taste.
- 27. Fill the chutney into clean, prepared jars.
- 28. Seal the jars tightly.
- 29. Store the jars in a cool place.
