Instructions

  1. 1. Add semolina, both types of flour, baking powder, and one tablespoon of salt to a bowl. Mix the dry ingredients well.
  2. 2. Add milk, eggs, butter, and sugar. Stir with a hand mixer until you have a smooth dough.
  3. 3. Line a loaf pan with baking paper. Fill it with the dough and smooth the top.
  4. 4. Preheat the oven to 200 °C (convection 180 °C; gas mark 3). Bake the bread for about 45 minutes until golden brown.
  5. 5. Remove the bread from the oven. Let it cool for a short while, take it out of the pan, and let it cool completely on a wire rack.
  6. 6. Peel the onions and garlic. Dice the onions roughly and finely chop the garlic.
  7. 7. Wash the chili peppers and chop them. Clean the celery, wash it, and dice it.
  8. 8. Peel the carrots and dice them finely. Clean the bell peppers, wash them, halve them, and cut them into short strips.
  9. 9. Heat the oil in a pot. Sauté the chili and onions in the hot oil.
  10. 10. Add the minced meat and fry until crumbly.
  11. 11. Stir in the celery, bell peppers, and carrots.
  12. 12. Add the tomato paste and garlic. Fry everything briefly.
  13. 13. Deglaze with broth. Add the paprika powder.
  14. 14. Simmer the chili for about 45 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add a little more liquid if necessary.
  15. 15. Drain the beans in a sieve. Add them to the chili.
  16. 16. Let everything simmer for another 10 minutes.
  17. 17. Wash and trim the spring onions. Chop them and add them to the pot.
  18. 18. Season the dish with salt and pepper.
  19. 19. Fill the chili con carne into serving bowls. Add a dollop of sour cream to each.
  20. 20. Chop the dark chocolate. Sprinkle it over the chili.
  21. 21. Serve the chili con carne with the chocolate and the cornbread.
