  1. 1. Peel the onion and dice it into fine cubes.
  2. 2. Sauté the onion cubes in one tablespoon of hot oil until they are soft and translucent.
  3. 3. Let the onion mixture cool down briefly.
  4. 4. Mix the minced meat with the egg, the thyme, and the cooled onions.
  5. 5. Gradually add breadcrumbs until the mixture is easy to shape.
  6. 6. Season the meat mixture with salt and pepper.
  7. 7. Form four burger patties from the mixture.
  8. 8. Fry the patties in the remaining oil in a hot pan.
  9. 9. Turn the patties occasionally and fry them for 6 to 8 minutes until golden brown on both sides.
  10. 10. Wash the lettuce and remove the tough stems.
  11. 11. Shake the lettuce dry and tear the leaves into small pieces.
  12. 12. Wash the tomato and remove the stem area.
  13. 13. Slice the tomato.
  14. 14. Wash the chili pepper and halve it.
  15. 15. Remove the seeds from the chili and chop it finely.
  16. 16. Mix the chopped chili with the oil and the fresh cheese mixture.
  17. 17. Season the fresh cheese chili mixture with salt and pepper.
  18. 18. Slice the buns horizontally.
  19. 19. Toast the cut sides of the buns until golden brown.
  20. 20. Spread mustard on the bottom half of the buns.
  21. 21. Place one patty on each bun half.
  22. 22. Spread the fresh cheese chili mixture onto the patties.
  23. 23. Place the tomato slices on top of the fresh cheese layer.
  24. 24. Add the lettuce on top of the tomato slices.
  25. 25. Close the burgers with the top bun halves.
  26. 26. Serve the burgers.
  27. 27. Serve the burger with a fresh tomato salad on the side, if desired.
