🍽️ Crispy Burgers with Homemade Onion Rings

Ingredients
- 2 Onions
- 300 g Flour
- 2 tsp Baking Powder
- 2 tsp Salt
- 2 Eggs
- 250 ml Buttermilk
- 150 g Cornflakes
- Vegetable Oil (for frying)
- Pepper (from the mill)
- 1 Egg
- 4 slices Butter Cheese
- 4 Burger Buns (with sesame)
- 2 Tomatoes
- 4 Lettuce Leaves
Instructions
- 1. Peel the onion and chop it very finely.
- 2. Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a pan and sauté the onions until translucent.
- 3. Stir the tomato paste into the onions for a short moment.
- 4. Transfer the onion mixture into a large bowl.
- 5. Add the minced meat, breadcrumbs, herbs, salt, pepper, and egg.
- 6. Knead the ingredients into a moldable dough.
- 7. Divide the dough into four equal patties.
- 8. Place the patties in the fridge, covered, for about 1 hour.
- 9. Peel the second onion and slice it into rings about 0.5 cm thick.
- 10. Carefully separate the onion rings from each other.
- 11. Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
- 12. Toss the onion rings in the flour mixture.
- 13. Shake off any excess flour from the rings.
- 14. Whisk the eggs with the buttermilk in a separate bowl.
- 15. Stir the buttermilk mixture into the flour mixture until a smooth batter forms.
- 16. Crush the cornflakes in a freezer bag using a rolling pin.
- 17. Spread the crushed cornflakes onto a plate.
- 18. Dip the onion rings into the batter.
- 19. Let the excess batter drip off the rings.
- 20. Coat the onion rings in the cornflakes.
- 21. Fry the onion rings in hot oil (approx. 170°C) until golden brown.
- 22. Fry the burger patties in the remaining hot oil in a pan for 4-5 minutes on one side.
- 23. Flip the patties and place a slice of cheese on each.
- 24. Fry the patties for another 4-5 minutes.
- 25. Halve the burger buns.
- 26. Toast the cut sides of the buns if desired.
- 27. Wash the tomatoes and slice them.
- 28. Wash the lettuce leaves and shake them dry.
- 29. Place the lettuce leaves on the bottom halves of the burger buns.
- 30. Place one patty on the lettuce leaves.
- 31. Top the patties with the tomato slices.
- 32. Add the crispy onion rings on top.
- 33. Cover the burgers with the top halves of the buns.
- 34. Secure the burgers with a toothpick if desired.
