  1. 1. Break the chocolate into small pieces.
  2. 2. Place a bowl over a pot with hot, but not boiling water.
  3. 3. Let the chocolate melt slowly with the addition of 2 tablespoons of water.
  4. 4. Add the butter and sugar.
  5. 5. Stir until everything is melted and smooth.
  6. 6. Separate the eggs.
  7. 7. Stir the egg yolks together with the flour into the chocolate mixture.
  8. 8. Beat the egg whites until very stiff.
  9. 9. Gently fold the egg whites into the mixture.
  10. 10. Line a rectangular cake pan with baking paper.
  11. 11. Pour the chocolate mixture into the pan.
  12. 12. Place the pan in a cold oven.
  13. 13. Turn the oven on to 180 degrees Celsius.
  14. 14. Bake the brownies for about 40 to 50 minutes.
  15. 15. Check with a wooden skewer if any liquid batter sticks to it.
  16. 16. Remove the brownies from the oven.
  17. 17. Let them cool for a short while.
  18. 18. Carefully turn them out onto a wire rack.
  19. 19. Remove the baking paper.
  20. 20. Let the brownies cool completely.
  21. 21. Stir all the ingredients for the icing until smooth.
  22. 22. Add a little water if the icing is too thick.
  23. 23. Spread the icing evenly over the cooled cake.
  24. 24. Let the icing dry.
  25. 25. Cut the brownies into 20 equal pieces.
