Ingredients
- 750 ml lukewarm milk
- 2 tsp grated lemon zest
- 3 eggs
- 2 packets vanilla sugar
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 8 stale rolls
- 650 g pitted cherries
- 2 tbsp butter
- butter (for the dish)
- powdered sugar
Instructions
- 1. Whisk lukewarm milk, grated lemon zest, eggs, vanilla sugar, and sugar in a large bowl until the mixture is completely smooth.
- 2. Slice the bread rolls into thin, even slices.
- 3. Layer the bread slices and cherries alternately in a greased baking dish. Pour the egg milk evenly over everything and let it sit for 15 minutes so the bread absorbs the liquid.
- 4. Distribute small pieces of butter over the surface. Bake the pudding in a preheated oven at 200 degrees on the middle rack for about 30 minutes, until it is golden brown and crispy.
- 5. Lightly dust the finished pudding with powdered sugar before serving.
