🍽️ Crispy Honey-Herring on Buttered Bread with Onion Crisps

Ingredients
- 4 slices whole wheat bread
- 400 g herring fillets, ready for cooking, skinless (4 herring fillets)
- 1 onion
- 1 tbsp flour
- oil (for frying)
- salt
- pepper (from the mill)
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 drop lemon juice
- 20 g butter
Instructions
- 1. Rinse the herring pieces under running water.
- 2. Gently pat the fillets dry with a kitchen towel.
- 3. Brush the fillets lightly with liquid honey.
- 4. Season the fish with a squeeze of lemon juice.
- 5. Add a pinch of salt and freshly ground pepper.
- 6. Place the herring on a baking tray.
- 7. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius with top and bottom heat.
- 8. Bake the fish for 8 to 10 minutes until golden brown.
- 9. Peel the onion and chop it into fine cubes.
- 10. Toss the onion pieces with flour until lightly coated.
- 11. Fry the onions in hot oil.
- 12. Remove the onions from the oil once they are golden brown and crispy.
- 13. Let the onions drain on kitchen paper.
- 14. Spread the bread slices generously with butter.
- 15. Place the baked herring pieces on the bread.
- 16. Sprinkle the crispy onions over the fish.
- 17. Serve the dish immediately.
