  1. 1. Turn on the toaster or place a pan on the stove.
  2. 2. Toast the bread slices until they are golden brown and crunchy.
  3. 3. Take the sardines out of the can and let them drain well in a sieve.
  4. 4. Mash the sardines into a fine paste in a bowl using a fork.
  5. 5. Stir the sardine paste thoroughly into the cream cheese mixture.
  6. 6. Take half of the capers and chop them finely on a cutting board.
  7. 7. Carefully pick the dill leaves off the tough stems.
  8. 8. Chop the dill leaves finely as well.
  9. 9. Fold the chopped capers and dill into the cheese-sardine mixture.
  10. 10. Season the cream to taste with salt and black pepper.
  11. 11. Spread the finished cream evenly onto the toasted bread slices.
  12. 12. Top the toasts with the remaining whole capers and fresh dill leaves.
  13. 13. Serve the dish immediately while warm.
