  4. 4. Mix the diced onion with the minced meat.
  5. 5. Season the meat mixture generously with salt and pepper.
  6. 6. Wash the tomato thoroughly.
  7. 7. Remove the hard stem base from the tomato.
  8. 8. Slice the flesh of the tomato into rounds.
  9. 9. Slice the gherkins into thin rounds.
  10. 10. Wash the lettuce leaves.
  11. 11. Shake the lettuce leaves dry.
  12. 12. Tear the lettuce leaves into bite-sized pieces.
  13. 13. Shape the minced meat mixture into four equal-sized meat patties.
  14. 14. Heat oil in a pan.
  15. 15. Fry the meat patties in the hot pan on each side for about 6 to 8 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  16. 16. Slice the buns horizontally in the middle.
  17. 17. Spread ketchup on the bottom half of each bun.
  18. 18. Place the lettuce leaves on the buns.
  19. 19. Place the gherkin slices on the lettuce.

  23. 23. Decorate the finished burgers as you like with small flag-shaped toothpicks.
